What is body contouring?
Body contouring is used to describe a variety of surgical procedures that seek to improve the overall contour and shape of different parts of the body. Most commonly these procedures are performed after patients have lost a significant amount of weight following bariatric surgery or other methods, and involve removing excess skin and fat tissue. Examples include panniculectomy, mastopexy (breast lift), arm lift, and posterior body lift.
Who is the ideal candidate?
Ideal candidates are healthy without serious medical conditions who have a stable weight, have a positive outlook, do not smoke or use tobacco, and have realistic expectations.
Surgical Technique
These procedures involve various types of incision patterns to remove excess skin and tissue in different parts of the body. Surgical drains are often placed to assist with healing and prevent fluid accumulation under the incisions.
What is recovery like?
You will be given specific instructions to follow after your procedure. You will be given medications to help with discomfort. A surgical dressing and compression wraps are placed during the procedure, this will help with swelling and support. You will have activity restrictions for approximately 4-6 weeks following surgery.
Results
Having body contouring procedures will improve the appearance of the treated area and remove symptomatic excess skin that often causes rashes and discomfort. The final result will help you feel more confident about yourself and improve your quality of life. Most patients report a very high satisfaction level after these procedures.
