WHAT IS AN ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK)?

An abdominoplasty, also known as a "tummy tuck surgery," is an outpatient cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the abdomen. Through a combination of removing excess skin and fat, and tightening the abdominal muscles, this procedure narrows the waistline and smooths the abdomen. This type of cosmetic surgery is often used to address issues such as loose skin, stretch marks, and weak abdominal muscles that can occur as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, or aging.

Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery

Self conficence

Improved Self- Confidence

Many individuals feel self-conscious about the excess fat or loose skin around their midsection. This can cause them to feel uncomfortable in their clothing, avoid social situations, or shy away from physical intimacy. Tummy tuck surgery can help to eliminate these insecurities, leaving patients feeling more comfortable and confident in their bodies!

Stretch Marks

Reduce Stretch Marks and Scars

Tummy tuck surgery can reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars that may have developed on the abdomen. These can be a source of frustration for many individuals, and despite various creams and lotions, it can be challenging to get rid of them. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat around the midsection, causing stretch marks and scars to become less noticeable.

Good posture

Improved Posture and Reduced Back Pain

Carrying excess weight around the midsection can cause individuals to have poor posture and experience back pain. During a tummy tuck procedure, the abdominal muscles are tightened, which can help to improve posture and alleviate back pain.

THE TUMMY TUCK SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

Abdominoplasty usually involves an incision along the lower waistline and around the navel. The abdominal muscles are restored to their normal position, and excess skin and tissue are removed. This procedure is often combined with liposuction to improve the overall contour of the abdomen and flank regions. Surgical drains are usually placed to assist with healing and prevent fluid accumulation under the incisions. It is important to keep in mind that a tummy tuck surgery is a major cosmetic surgery and it requires general anesthesia and likely a recovery period of around two to six weeks before fully resuming normal activities.

WHAT IS COSMETIC SURGERY RECOVERY LIKE?

After your tummy tuck surgery at our plastic surgery clinic, you will be given specific instructions to follow. You will be given medications to help with discomfort. A surgical dressing and an abdominal binder are placed during the procedure, as this will help with swelling and support. You will have activity restrictions for approximately six weeks following surgery. If you have any issues or concerns following your cosmetic surgery, our plastic surgery center team can answer your questions!

COMMON TUMMY TUCK RESULTS

Having a tummy tuck performed will improve the appearance of the abdomen and trunk — specifically narrowing the waistline and removing excess tissue. The final result is designed to help you feel more confident about yourself and your appearance. Ohio Plastic + Reconstructive Surgery & Skin Health Center patients report a very high satisfaction level after this cosmetic surgery procedure!

WHY DO PATIENTS CHOOSE THIS COSMETIC SURGERY?

Marysville and Worthington area patients tend to choose abdominoplasty for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons is to achieve a flatter, more toned abdominal area, which can greatly improve one’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Additionally, some patients may choose to have a tummy tuck done to address functional issues, such as difficulty finding clothing that fits properly or difficulty exercising due to the appearance of their abdominal area. However, it is important to have realistic expectations during the process and to be in a good physical and mental health status before proceeding.
