Male Breast Reduction

side-image-revision-1

What is a male breast reduction (for gynecomastia)?

Male breast reduction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess glandular tissue and skin, making the chest more proportional to your body and alleviating the discomfort associated with excess tissue. This often includes reshaping the chest with liposuction and repositioning the nipple complex.

Who is the ideal candidate?

Ideal candidates are healthy without other serious medical conditions, do not smoke or use tobacco, and have realistic expectations about improving their chest and body image.

Surgical Techniques

Some patients may only require liposuction of the chest, while others require surgical excision using larger incisions, or a combination of liposuction with excision.

What is recovery like?

You will be given specific instructions to follow after your procedure along with medications to help with discomfort. Sometimes surgical drains are placed during the procedure and these are removed in 1 or 2 weeks in the office. You will be allowed to shower after 48 hours but will have activity restrictions for 4-6 weeks. It will be important to wear a compression garment after surgery.

Results

Male breast reduction seeks to improve your quality of life, making the chest more masculine and proportional to your body, and relieving pain and discomfort associated with excess tissue. Most patients report a high satisfaction level after surgery.
