What is a Facelift / Necklift?
Facelifts and neck lifts are outpatient cosmetic surgical procedures designed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. While they do not change your fundamental appearance, these procedures address skin laxity, loss of facial tissue volume, excess skin along the neck and jawline, and deepening of the folds between the nose and cheek. A facelift is often combined with other restorative procedures such as eyelid surgery, liposuction, and fat transfer.
The goal of a facelift and neck lift is to provide a more refreshed and youthful-looking appearance with smoother skin and more natural contours. During the procedure, the surgeon will make incisions around the hairline and ears to access the underlying facial and neck tissues. Excess skin is then removed and the remaining skin is tightened, smoothed, and repositioned to create a more youthful contour. The incisions are then closed and the patient is typically discharged the same day.
Who is the Ideal Candidate?

Surgical Technique
A variety of facelift and neck lift techniques exist. Each patient’s unique goals and anatomy are determined carefully and the most effective approach is chosen to meet those goals. The incision is usually placed within the temple hairline, curving in front of the ear and then around the earlobe toward the hairline along the neck. This allows for the scar to be easily concealed after healing. Often liposuction or a small incision underneath the chin is required to perform the neck lift portion. What is recovery like?
You will be given specific instructions to follow after your procedure. You will be given medications to help with discomfort. After the procedure, you will have a dressing wrap around your face which will be removed in the office the following day. You may also have small drainage tubes. It is common to have mild swelling and occasional bruising for a few weeks. Your sutures will be removed in 7-10 days. You will be instructed to keep the area clean and dry and will be given written instructions for follow-up care. Additionally, you may be advised to use cold compresses to reduce swelling and limit your physical activity for a certain period of time.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure and in the days following. Swelling and bruising are common and typically resolve within two weeks. Although the results of a facelift and neck lift are not permanent, this procedure can provide long-term results with good skincare and maintenance.
Results
A facelift or neck lift will improve visible signs of aging, giving you a more youthful and rested appearance, and helping you feel more confident about yourself. After the swelling subsides the visible changes will be apparent, but it may take 2-3 months for your face to feel back to normal.
